According to a recent study conducted in the U.S., use of alcohol by parents can have a list of adverse effects on their kids. These affects can be in the form of developmental or educational delays and also result in behavioral problems as the kids grow up.

Parents who are constantly exposed to the use of alcohol or drugs, often fail to prioritize their kids and as a result of that they end up neglecting the kids in their crucial formative years, when their physical, mental as well as social and emotional development is shaping up, and hence, chances are high that these kids grow up to have many behavioral problems and also suffer from some developmental delays.

In fact, the study also asserted that primary and prolonged exposure to drugs and alcohol from their parents, expose the kids as well to substance abuse and chances are ripe that as these kids grow up, they too are vulnerable and often become subjected to substance abuse themselves. Their social skills are affected adversely, as a result of which they often end up having least to no friends at all, and this makes them keep to just themselves, all isolated in a shell of their own, and the only peace of mind they think they get is from substance abuse itself.

According to a report published in the journal of the American Association of Pediatrics, all children whose parents who misuse alcohol and also have a record of drug abuse, are far more likely than other kids their age, to become physically, sexually or emotionally abused.

These forms of abuse can also be diagnosed by looking at some warning signs on the kids, which can be a list of things, from bruises to patterned injuries, inappropriate clothing, scars from hitting with belts, etc. With these symptoms, pediatricians can conduct assessments of kids to know if they are exposed to drug abuse and then go ahead with treatments and therapies to help the kids combat the ill-effects of the same and have a chance at a better future.
