According to a recent study, kids who frequently consume fructose through sweetened beverages, pizza, soda, yogurt, biscuits, salty products are susceptible to the risks of developing liver diseases. The research also asserts that major intake of fructose in kids increase the serum uric acid concentrations in them, further leading to the increasing risks of liver related ailments.
It is also said that increased fructose consumption as well as uric acid concentration are often found to be high in people suffering from NAFLD—non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a condition in which people who drink little to no alcohol, have extra fat getting accumulated in their liver cells.
The condition is believed to affect around 30% of the entire population in the western countries, out of which around 9.6% are kids and around 38% of those children who already suffer from obesity, across a long list of liver diseases, which also include NASH—a combination of liver conditions involving hepatocyte ballooning, inflammation as well as steatosis.
It is also said that though medically NASH is a less complicated and less aggressive form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, it can sooner or later transform into severe cirrhosis or fibrosis, and it can lead to further development of carcinoma, in the adults.
The research also stated that high uric acid levels were indirectly and independently connected with fructose consumption and this condition was more common in patients who were affected by NASH instead of those who were not inflicted by it.
A doctor from Bambino Gesu Hospital in Italy, thus asserted that increased fructose and uric acid concentration levels are indeed associated with increased chances of liver diseases in individuals and hence, people must make it a point to avoid consuming processed foods, that have high sugar concentrations and also avoid products that can level up uric acid levels in the body.
