The pre-examination and examination phase is a struggle time for every student out there. While a lot of factors play an important role in determining how well one would be performing in their exams, such as, academic concentration, study timetables, sleeping patterns, there’s one thing that is extremely pivotal during the examination cycle and that is what one eats.
Here are some helpful tips on what to eat and what not to eat before and during your exams—
- First make sure that you don’t skip meals
This is the most fundament thing to do. It is obvious that due to extreme tension for exams, your routine suddenly changes and you feel that you won’t be able to eat anything until the tension subsides. However, this is not the right thing to do since it weakens your body and mind, leading to lack of focus and poor memory, which is definitely not a good sign for exam time. If not something solid, at least make sure to get some protein shakes or fruits while studying and stay fit and healthy.
- Strictly avoid brain blocking foods
Brain blocking foods are better avoided during your exam time. These include meals made of white flour, such as, muffins, cakes, cookies, and also the ones composed of high refined sugar, such as, pastries, desserts, and candies. These kind of foods take a lot of time for digestion, thus causing an imbalance in your body, hindering your brain from focusing on one thing at a time, and thus, jeopardizing your study preps.
- Try eating more of brain boosting foods
These include meals rich in protein, like eggs, pulses, fishes, and also foods with low fats and high energy components, like sugar free muesli, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. Dry fruits like almonds and walnuts are also great intakes for boosting memory and brain alertness during examination phase.
- Don’t try new beverages or foods just before exams
Always remember, everyone’s body is entitled to respond differently to any external agent, including foods. Even if your friend or relative or whosever it may concern recommends you to try a food or drink before exam, don’t try to experiment, since what works for them may not work for you and you certainly don’t want to jeopardize your grades because of this.
- Opt for lighter meals
Since your mind is already loaded with tones of thoughts during exams, you don’t want to make it harder for your body by eating heavy meals. Opt for lighter meals and you can have them at regular intervals. This way, your body’s digestion system will work properly and so will your mind.
